We were first challenged to be “coffee grounds”, changing our environment, when we are exposed to trials. Johanna then shared a “recipe” for Chocolate Chip Cookies, comparing the ingredients to friendship characteristics. First, the chips represent a cheerful attitude; flour represents forgiveness; salt represents sensitivity; sugar represents a sense of humor; eggs represent easy going personality; vanilla represents value; and pecans represent our “nutty” side. With these ingredients, we can have a delicious snack and be a delightful friend. However, bad ingredients can ruin the dough as well as friendship such as egg shells represent ego, pride and arrogance; dirt represents dirty words and negative things said about others; weeds represent gossip and grudges; and insect repellent repels others from us. Once these ingredients have been added to the dough, they can’t be taken out. Johanna ended her program by reading a poem “Kindness” by James Foley and challenging everyone to be “coffee grounds” and a delicious chocolate chip cookie. Jana Williams brought the door prize that was won by Ruth Fisher. The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
